Many Southern Gospel artists and fans know Carolyn from her decades of concert attendance working at the Singing News table. She also wrote a monthly cooking column for the magazine and published the cookbook, For the Love of Cooking.
Carolyn had suffered from several illnesses in recent years and was most recently diagnosed with liver disease. She had been in an extended care physical therapy facility since February 2015 and required a few hospital stays during that time as well. She was transferred to Watauga Medical Center in Boone, North Carolina, on July 1 and had been there ever since.
Carolyn was a friend to many Southern Gospel artists and fans. She was a caring mother to everyone she met. She leaves behind her husband Jerry, sons Kenneth and Brett, daughter-in-law Deborah M. Kirksey, two sisters, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
