The reigning GMA Dove Award Male Artist and Artist of the Year, Jason Crabb, is keen to bundle up and perform as the snowflakes start drifting this season: “If you’ve ever heard Sandi sing, you know why she’s called ‘The Voice’! I am thrilled and honored to share the stage at this special time of year with her. It’s gonna be great!” Releasing a Christmas CD just a year into his solo career demonstrated that Jason loves the songs of the season. Introduced to Southern Gospel fans as part of his parents’ singing group, the renowned Crabb Family, Jason only went solo in 2009 — but has already garnered over 20 Dove Awards, a Grammy and most recently a Soloist of the Year award from NQC Music Awards.
Patty, an 11-time GMA Dove Award Female Artist and five-time Artist of the Year, has released a half dozen or so Christmas records and made yuletide concerting part of her life since the 1990s — but never with Jason Crabb: “I cannot tell you how excited I am to be touring with Jason. I am such a huge fan of him and his music, and it is such a joy for me to share this Christmas season traveling the country singing with him.” Winner of 40 Dove Awards, five Grammys, four Billboard Music Awards and a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, Sandi’s recordings have sold more than 11 million copies — three platinum and five gold. The mostawarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history was born into a family of musicians in Oklahoma. Like Jason, she sang as a youngster with her parents’ group, then after college in Anderson, Ind., toured with Bill and Gloria Gaither. The launchpad for her meteoric solo career was built in front of Southern Gospel audiences.
But until the fruitcake, flurries and sleighbells arrive, both artists are busily working on new albums for 2013. Jason’s — with producers Ed Cash, Jay DeMarcus and Wayne Haun—is due early in the year, while Sandi’s will come out in the fall. They will also team up the following winter, when Jason will set sail in the Caribbean on the “Sandi Patty and Friends Cruise” in late February, 2014.
It remains to be seen whether Sandi and Jason will create musical history on the scale of “I’ve Just Seen Jesus,” Sandi’s landmark duet with Larnelle Harris. But surely the mix of the holiday season, the world’s best-loved songs, two amazing voices and the power of that holy night in Bethlehem will turn into an unforgettable evening for everyone blessed to attend their “Christmas Celebration.”
