On May 3, 2015, Gaither Homecoming artist Gene McDonald celebrated a milestone—he turned the big 5-0! Just on the heels of arriving home from a very busy Texas Homecoming Spectacular in Plano, Texas, Gene's family and friends surprised him with a birthday party at a beautiful lakeside restaurant in Hendersonville, Tennessee, called the Rudder at Anchor High Marina.

In addition to Gene's lovely wife Teri and their son, Nathan, the group included many Homecoming friends, such as Lily Isaacs, Reggie & Ladye Love Smith, Becky Isaacs Bowman and her daughter Jakobi, Ben and Mindy Isaacs, Jimmy and Sonya (Isaacs) Yeary and their son, Ayden, Sue Buchanan, Jon, Terah and Logan Penhollow and others.

Bill and Gloria Gaither were not in town, but Gloria sent a birthday wish that warmed Gene's heart, according to his wife Teri. She reports, "Good food, lots of laughter, conversations and fun were had by all! It was hard to end the party."

Gene was very humbled by all of the birthday wishes and love shown to him, and he shares, "Turning 50 means half my life is over, but I'm excited to see what the next 50 will hold!"
