Ann Downing was honored in October at the inaugural Creekside Gospel Music Convention, held in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. At the SGN Scoops Diamond Awards, Downing was presented with the J.D. Sumner Living Legend Award for 2012. “You’re kidding!” said Ann, as her name was announced, adding, “I never thought I’d win! I just came to support the cause.” In an impromptu acceptance speech, Downing shared her passion for being a part of gospel music history. “I love this music. Singing gospel music was my dream, and I have sung with some of the best. I want to make sure I do all I can to preserve the heritage for generations to come. Thank you to everyone who voted.” Ann stays very active with speaking and singing engagements, and one of her recent endeavors has been the Ms. Lillie Project, started six years ago after the death of her mother. Through this ministry, Ann provides nursing home facilities with Gaither Homecoming DVDs, so that the residents can be encouraged through the uplifting message of the gospel.
