Grandma and Kay

Kay was my grandma’s shadow. Everywhere Grandma went, Kay was right behind her. All that changed for both of them when Grandma had to go into the nursing home for six weeks of antibiotics through a PICC line. Kay was never sure how to respond when someone came to check on her; she was always hopeful Grandma was with us. We would take Kay out to the nursing home to see Grandma, but it wasn’t the same. When Grandma was able to come home, we kept Kay in a bedroom until Grandma was settled. The minute we opened the bedroom door, Kay raced down the hall, jumped onto the couch beside Grandma and wouldn’t leave her side. They were both so happy to see each other! Kay was 16 years old when Grandma had to put her down, but memories like this one will never be forgotten!
