The rush for pencils, paper, note cards, folders and glue in stores can mean only one thing: back-to-school time! Maybe you've already made that mad grab for school supplies for your children this year, or maybe you have a grandchild just starting school.

It has brought to my mind that as Christians, we are eternal students. We cannot, in our lifetime, ever "graduate" from studying the Bible. As God's living Word, it offers layers of meaning and fresh revelation as we read it year after year. If yours has been collecting dust lately, grab a pencil, highlighter and maybe even some note cards, and dive in again! You'll be glad you did.

Nominees for the 45th annual GMA Dove Awards have been announced, and we're happy to see a good number of Gaither Homecoming Friends on that list! Did you know that the Dove Awards were originally conceptualized by Bill Gaither, at a Gospel Music Association board meeting in 1968? According to Wikipedia, the idea of the award being represented by a dove is credited to Gaither and the design for the award itself is credited to gospel singer Les Beasley. Upon learning of the recent suicide of actor/comedian Robin Williams, several Homecoming Friends expressed their thoughts regarding this tragic event. As you know, Buddy Greene is a man of many talents — singing, songwriting, guitar and, of course, harmonica playing! He was recently quite surprised to win a prestigious award from the U.S.'s largest organization for professional harmonica players, and he was also blown away by an amazing harmonica performance by the legendary Stan Harper, who turns 93 this year! Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys has also been honored this month, in his home state of Texas! He was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Hall of Fame's museum now features an exhibit of Duane's life and work.
