When Jesus called the apostles, He handpicked them from among the most skilled orators, philosophers, teachers and writers of His time, right? Didn't He select the most educated and elite? No. Scripture tells us that many of the men He called were Galilean fishermen, who were deemed low-class, ordinary commoners. Then there was Matthew, a despised tax collector, and we don't even know the occupations for some of the others.

Yet these men's names are famous the world over (with the exception of infamous Judas) ... and that happened not because of their innate talents, but because JESUS chose them to follow Him, to trust Him as they learned an entirely new way of thinking. These ordinary ones led extraordinary lives, because of Him alone. And just as they did, so can we!
