Here in Nashville (as in many parts of the country), we've just had a very snowy weekend, which is rare for our city. Many people prepare for these storms by winterizing cars, buying bread and milk, stocking up on candles and batteries for flashlights, and making sure extra blankets are easily accessible.

I read a devotional in which the author (Julia Bettencourt) asks if we spend enough time "winterizing" our hearts. I love that picture of "stocking up" on spiritual essentials just as we would physical necessities, to better prepare ourselves for life's storms. Time spent in prayer, Scripture memorization, fellowship with other believers ... while these things don't always prevent our suffering, they can serve to fortify our hearts and spirits so that when the storms come, we are more equipped to weather them.

A thought from the Word....
