Grammy-winning artist Michael W. Smith will play the role of a disciple of Jesus in THE PASSION, FOX's two-hour inspirational televised musical event airing live from New Orleans on Palm Sunday, March 20 2016 (8-10 p.m. ET live/PT tape-delayed).

Smith joins a talented cast which includes host and narrator Tyler Perry, Jencarlos Canela (Jesus Christ), Trisha Yearwood (Mary, mother of Jesus), Chris Daughtry (Judas), Prince Royce (Peter) and Seal (Pontius Pilate), plus special guests Yolanda Adams and Shane Harper.

Set in modern times, THE PASSION follows the dramatic account of Jesus of Nazareth as he presides over the Last Supper, is betrayed by Judas, put on trial by Pontius Pilate, convicted, crucified and resurrected. The story is told through passages from the Bible and a variety of well-known contemporary songs performed by the cast.

Beginning with a performance by gospel singer Yolanda Adams, the event will unfold live at some of New Orleans’ most iconic locations, while featuring a procession of a thousand people carrying a 20-foot, illuminated cross from outside the Superdome to the live stage at Woldenberg Park on the banks of the Mississippi River.

On March 18, Deep Well Records/Virgin Records will release The Passion: New Orleans, the soundtrack from the live event, which will feature its cast performing songs such as "Broken," "With Arms Wide Open" and "Love Can Move Mountains."

An exclusive version of the soundtrack will be sold in Target stores, and this CD will feature a brand-new song from Michael W. Smith, "He Will Never End," written especially for THE PASSION.
