TRUE BLUE
Known for his virtuosic musicianship and colorful attire, Doyle Lawson celebrates five decades of playing professionally and added to his mountain of accolades recently when he was awarded the SPBGMA’s Mandolin Player of the Year in February. He and his innovative group Quicksilver have released a new album showcasing their recognizable, yet always cutting edge, bluegrass-gospel sound. Roads Well Traveled (Mountain Home Music) is definitely a team effort—the current lineup of Quicksilver helped to engineer, mix and master the tunes, as well as co-writing many of them. Lawson calls the emotionally complex project “a musical journey of stories told in melody about the realities of life,” with poignant themes of lost love, forgiveness and letting go reflected in the smooth ballads and driving tempos.
