Think coloring books are just for kids? Think again! If you are looking for a way to relieve stress, stimulate your creative side and relax, try one of the many new offerings on the market designed especially for grownups. Instead of the simple bunnies and puppies we crayoned growing up, these beautiful books feature much more sophisticated artwork. Since many of the designs are so intricate, adult colorists are moving beyond crayons and picking up colored pencils, art markers, gel pens, watercolor pencils and more. This massively expanding literary genre is so popular that coloring book titles have been routinely appearing on the bestseller lists of Amazon and other outlets.
One such offering is Live Loved, from popular Bible teacher/author Margaret Feinberg. This book combines intricate artwork with Scripture, so that once a page is colored, the user has a beautiful, maybe even frame-worthy, reminder of God’s love. The experience can become a devotion time in itself, as there are “pray and reflect” spaces provided to write whatever God may speak into your heart as you meditate on the verse you are coloring.
Feinberg has been surprised at the overwhelming response. “In our fast-paced, content-driven world, the opportunity to be fully present, memorize Scripture, rekindle play, and share your creative expression with others is striking a chord,” she says. “We can’t fill orders fast enough.”
